I’ve been working for 19 years and from my first job through to my current role I’ve learnt so much about how to navigate the tricky world of work. And whilst I’ve certainly learnt lots from my own successes and mistakes, I haven’t done it alone. I’ve had great advice from colleagues and mentors, I’ve see how not to do it from bad bosses and demanding co-workers and I’ve read so many books and blogs that have helped me to develop my own style and way of working.
Recently more and more I have been looking to other women for ideas and inspiration about how to take my career to the next level. Whether that is reading a book like Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In, following amazing women on Instagram or speaking to other women at networking events, I’ve found inspiration and the confidence to act in my own career from the stories of other women. I want to use this space to share some of the things that I’ve learnt and to showcase the stories of the women who have inspired me to show that there are so many ways to approach work and feel that you have been successful.
Sometimes all it takes is a small piece of advice or a new way of looking at a problem to help you to move forward. Or an inspiring story of how someone else has overcome a challenge to take their career to the next level, to give you that boost in confidence you need to take control of your own career.
I hope that in sharing what has worked for me and the stories that I have found inspiring, you will be able to find even more confidence to tackle that big project you have coming up, to ask for a raise, to support your team or apply for the next role in your career. Whatever it is that you want to achieve, I hope that this blog will play a small part in getting you there
